Xbox One Games I’m Looking Forward to This Coming Year

Finally, the wait has ended! Millions of people, myself included, now have an Xbox One in their house and I must admit that it was worth the wait. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how fluid the voice and motion controls can be tied together to navigate Xbox One’s interface, specifically while watching Netflix or using the built in Game DVR to record short bits of footage. And, although these features are impressive and fun to use, I’ve realized that my true wait has finally begun — the wait for a variety of impressive looking games coming out for Xbox One over the next few years. Join me as I take a look at some of, in my opinion, the coolest looking titles coming out in 2014.

1. The Evil Within
Release Date: Sometime in 2014
I’m a huge horror junkie, so as soon as I saw this game you can bet I got excited. Not much is known about the plot of this game as of yet, but that doesn’t matter much because Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, is heading up The Evil Within and plans to return the survival-horror genre back to its roots. Much of what has been depicted in gameplay footage looks similar to the original Dead Space, minus the science-fiction element. If you like games that make you feel tense and are packed full of blood and gore, this is a game you should definitely look into picking up for your next-gen console.

2. Titanfall
Release Date: March 11, 2014
Since CoD 4 came out in 2007 I’ve been a fan of the first person shooter genre and Titanfall is shaping up to be no exception. To me, it looks like Call of Duty on Steroids due to the multiple layers of gameplay regarding Titans and jet-packs. The inclusion of these two elements within a first person shooter may create a steep learning curve, but I’m sure it will be well worth it. I’m crazy excited for March 11!

3. Destiny
Release Date: Sometime in 2014
When Bungie decided to pass Halo along to 343 Industries I was rather distraught. One of the best video game franchises had just been abandoned by its creator, but little did I know Bungie had something brilliant planned and their answer to all our questions is Destiny. If you’ve played either game in the Borderlands series it looks very similar to that type of play style (i.e. a gun-based RPG system) except the graphics are much more realistic and the story seems to be presented in a much grander scale. I’m definitely excited to explore the world(s) of Destiny!

4. Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor
Release Date: Unannounced
Lord of The Ring games have had their fair share of flops, but I’m inclined to believe that Monolith Productions will be able to produce a high-quality game that doesn’t stray too far away from Tolkien’s vision for the series. You play as a conflicted Ranger who possesses Wraith-like abilities in a story that takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings, which sounds somewhat cliché, but hopefully the plot comes across in a way that makes sense. Here’s to Mordor!
